Paint, Layer, Stitch and Burn! Making beautiful mixed media backgrounds Join me for a very fun and experimental day, to create these gorgeous machine embroidered, mixed media backgrounds. We will begin by painting Tyvek (a type of synthetic fabric), which can then be layered together with organza and net and stitched into. Once the layers are complete, we will burn areas away using a heat gun and soldering iron, to make a really unusual and interesting textured surface, with different parts of the fabric exposed or remaining. These backgrounds are perfect to use as a book cover, or perhaps cut into small strips and used as a bookmark. Once we have our background, I will show you how to add foils for that extra bit of bling! I'll also show you how to make your own Tyvek "beads" which could be attached as an additional accessory. Keep embellishing with more beads or sequins to make a really sumptuous piece! Suitable for those with basic experience in machine embroidery, you will need to bring your sewing machine with embroidery foot attached and a small selection of threads. (If you don't have experience in machine embroidery, you could stitch a pattern using a standard sewing machine foot instead). All other materials are provided, along with tea, coffee and biscuits.
