Workshops for Groups 2024
Do you have a small group of friends who would like to get together and do a workshop?
I offer the following workshops as private bookings and can tailor these to your requirements at a mutually convenient date. Workshops take place in my Garden Studio, Storrington for up to 5 participants. If your group is larger than 5, we can arrange an alternative venue.

Heat Press - Making printed backgrounds for embroidery ENQUIRE
Let me show you the fun you can have with my heat press! Using heat transfer paint, we will use the press to transfer the dye onto fabrics such as lutrador and interfacing to create the most amazing backgrounds, which are beautiful to embroider into. We will create masks made from different shapes and natural materials such as leaves and feathers and build up colourful layers. We'll also be looking at some steaming techniques and how you can then press the resulting fabric to make really unusual textures for use in embroidery. We'll then spend some time embellishing our fabric using hand stitch, to make some small pieces which could be used as greetings cards or small pictures. All materials provided.
Make a Printed Fabric and Paper Stash ENQUIRE
1 day workshop 10 - 4 pm

Have fun experimenting with different printing and mark making techniques to create your very own unique stash of interesting fabric and paper samples. We will try out techniques such as gelli-printing, marbling, stamping and more to make a range of beautiful samples. Use for collage, applique or decoupage work to give your work that extra bit of interest.
Hand Stitched Fabric Book (Either 1 or 2 day workshop) ENQUIRE

Spend a relaxing day hand stitching a beautiful fabric book, using applique, collage and embellishments to create a unique and meaningful artwork. This could be based around a theme, such a holiday memento, special place or memory of a loved one.
2 day workshop 10 - 4 pm
Spend Day 1 printing and marking your own unique stash of fabric and then, return on Day 2 for a relaxing session of arranging and hand stitching to piece the book together.
Introduction to Machine Embroidery ENQUIRE

Would you like to try out the wonderful technique of free motion embroidery? This one day taster course will teach you how to "drop your feed dogs" and get started with the basics of using your sewing machine as a drawing tool.
Machine Embroidered Bowl ENQUIRE
1 day workshop 10 - 2 pm

Come along and experiment with using dissolvable fabric to make a fabulous machine embroidered bowl! This is such a fun and easy technique with wonderful results. Note: Some experience in free motion embroidery is required.
2 day workshop 10 - 4 pm each day

This course will introduce you to a range of techniques; mixing textiles and embroidery with some unusual mixed media, to create a beautiful soft fabric vessel. This could be used as a cover to enhance a flower vase, or as a stand-alone decorative item. You will learn step by step, how to create a gorgeous textured background by using paint on stabilising fabric and adding interesting textures and colours like mulberry bark and silk cocoons or carrier rods, to build up some fascinating surface decoration. I will show you how to add metallic elements using foils and copper shim, plus hand embroidery and other embellishments to make this a truly three-dimensional work. Learn how to fold and shape your vessel, then add a base and inner lining to complete. Price includes all materials and embellishments, with lots of interesting fibres and mixed media elements.
Confidence using Colour ENQUIRE

Do you lack confidence in knowing which colours to use in your work? Do you struggle to choose colours which match or compliment each other? Would you like to know more about tried and tested strategies that can add that extra "zing" to your embroidery or quilting project? Join me on this interesting and informative one day workshop to explore strategies and methods of using colour. Going back to basics, I will explain and demonstrate colour theory - looking at understanding how to successfully use a colour wheel, hue, tone, shades and using accents. We will work on a series of exercises to explore different colour palettes and ways of working, giving you a range of reference samples to take away and inspiring you with some brand new ideas of fabric colour combinations for use in the future.
2 day workshop 10 - 4 pm each day

This is a really fun and unusual workshop, with a bit of everything thrown in! Spend Day 1 printing, stamping, marbling and marking a range of papers to create your own unique stash. Then return on Day 2 to decoupage them together to make a beautiful keepsake box. In addition, I will share the secret to making a machine embroidered leaf or other emblem, as a fabulous embellishment.
