Frequently Asked Questions
about textiles and embroidery workshops
How much experience do I need to take a workshop?
All of my workshops (including the monthly Creative Textiles Group) are suitable for any level of experience, from complete beginners to the more experienced. Because I always teach in small groups, I will talk you through step by step and can offer lots of one to one guidance, as well as extension activities, for those who need it. By the end of the workshop, most peoples embroidery or samples always end up being completely unique and an expression of themselves and that's the way I like it! Occasionally, workshops in machine embroidery will require some prior experience, but this will be specified on the workshop description.
" I just wanted to thank you for an inspirational workshop on Thursday. It was my first hand embroidery workshop with you and I absolutely loved it. I am so pleased with the embroidered sample I finished at home with much help from your handouts and photos of your work. If I had seen your piece of embroidery in a magazine, I never would have imagined that I could achieve anything like it myself." Sandra Riddles, July 2026
Do I need to bring any materials with me?
An equipment and materials list will be emailed to you approximately a week beforehand, along with directions to the venue. Most materials are included in the price of the workshop, but anything extra will be specified. You might want to bring your own small sewing kit with you, but this is optional.
Do I need to bring a sewing machine?
If you have booked onto a machine embroidery workshop with me, you will need to be bring your own sewing machine. This should be in good working order, with the embroidery foot attached and some threads. If you wish to borrow a sewing machine, please contact me and I can arrange this for you.
I want to cancel my workshop, do I get a refund?
If you cancel your workshop and it's more that three weeks in advance of the start date, then I will send a refund to the original payment source. If cancellation is within 3 weeks of your workshop, I am unable to offer a refund unless I can fill your space, or the course is cancelled.
Is food and drink included in the workshop?
Tea, coffee and chocolate biscuits are always on offer in my textiles and embroidery workshops! Please advise me of any alergies in advance. For longer courses, you will need to bring your own packed lunch as well.
Is the venue accessible?
If the workshop is taking place in my studio, there is a small stretch of gravel and one shallow step to enter the studio. Regrettably it is not easily accessible to wheelchairs. The other venues I use (including Sandham Village Hall, Denmans Gardens and Findon Village Hall) are all fully accessible.
Is there free parking at the venue?
Yes! All the venues I teach my workshops in have easy, accessible parking that is free to use and right next to the venue.
Can I book on to a workshop with a friend or a group of friends?
Yes, absolutely! You will need to make the bookings separately on my website, but just let me know in the "add a message" box when you book. If you have a small group (3 - 5) that would like to book a private workshop with me, then just contact me for more details or to arrange a date.
