Experimental hand embroidery - chain stitch and needle weaving Suitable for beginners, or those with some experience, come and join me for a relaxing day of experimental hand stitching. Over the day, we'll focus on two types of stitches - chain stitch and needle weaving. We'll look at some of the wonderful variations you can get by using different techniques with the same type of stitch. For example, we'll try out different weights, colours and types of thread and see what happens if we use the stitches alone, joined together or in groups. There are all sorts of fabulous versions of the chain stitch - either joined together, or as single stitch and it's such a versatile stitch to get to grips with. Needle weaving is just like weaving on a loom, except on a really tiny scale and is great fun! Learn how to stitch in 3D with the picot stitch, or make a multi dimensional "spiders web" by stitching over a bead or button. These stitches can make some lovely organic shapes, suggesting leaves, flowers and tiny plants. Spend the day playing and experimenting and add to your repertoire, to create a gorgeous hand embroidered sample piece, which you can use as inspiration for future projects.
