Inspired by Winter Trees - Printing and mark making, appliqué and hand embroidery The shapes and silhouettes formed by Winter trees are so interesting and inspiring to explore in embroidery and appliqué. Join me for a wonderful five weeks of creativity focusing on the lines, textures and patterns of trees in the landscape, in this unique course covering a range of techniques to make one or more beautiful embroidered pieces. We'll begin with a week of mark making and printing to create a "stash" of materials to use. Learn how to make your own stamps and textures to print with and use real walnut ink to stain and mark fabric, to create your own tree bark and landscape inspired backgrounds. Looking at the shapes of trees and some inspiring landscape artists, we'll consider how best to depict the Winter landscape in our choice of fabrics. Learn how to collage together your hand printed stash, to form the basis of our embroidered pieces. Next we'll be exploring all kinds of appliqué, with some unusual techniques to create tree silhouettes. I'll show you how to make templates for your shapes, cutting out using both scissors or a soldering iron, with a range of different fabrics such as sheers and organza to build up layers. We'll also experiment with using some mixed media products, (such as different types of paint and mediums) to create additional texture and interest on our tree trunks. Then enjoy some relaxing hand embroidery to embellish and enhance your pieces. Learn a range of different stitches to create one or more beautiful small pictures capturing the interesting shapes and textures of Winter trees. Suitable for all levels of ability, from complete beginners to the more experienced. Come and join me in this small friendly group, with lots of one to one help and tuition with all materials, plus tea, coffee and biscuits included.
