Join me to spend the day creating a beautiful hand stitched, “Boro style” book cover. Boro is a Japanese technique, meaning rags or tattered cloth, which are patched together to create a new “upcycled” fabric. Traditionally, Boro is indigo blue, but in this workshop, I will have a whole range of beautiful vintage and naturally marked and dyed fabrics, including antique lace, upcycled old clothing and cloth scraps for you to use. Enjoy selecting and arranging fabrics and putting together colours and textures to create a gorgeous background. Next, spend time in relaxing hand stitching, to piece them together using a variety of techniques. Learn new hand stitches and consider different ways of joining and attaching scraps, to make an attractive and interesting textured fabric. Finally, I will show you how to easily turn your background into a simple removable book cover, which could be used over and over again. Price includes all materials (including a small sketchbook to cover), plus tea, coffee and biscuits.
