Course Details

Come and join me for two wonderful days of making and stitching! This extended workshop will introduce you to a range of techniques; mixing textiles and hand embroidery with some unusual mixed media, to create a beautiful soft fabric vessel. This could be used as a cover to enhance a flower vase, or as a stand-alone decorative item. Day 1: With an emphasis on the colours and textures of the Autumnal landscape, you will learn step by step, how to create a gorgeous background for your vessel, by using paint on stabilising fabric. We'll then be selecting and adding a range of interesting materials like mulberry bark and silk cocoons or carrier rods, to build up some fascinating surface decoration, colour and texture. I will also show you how to add metallic elements using foils and copper shim, to create a wonderful base to stitch into. Day 2: This day is all about embellishment and stitching! Have a relaxing time decorating your vessel with further embellishments and hand stitching. I'll show you a range of hand embroidery stitches and techniques such as couching and adding beads, to make this a truly three-dimensional work! Learn how to fold and shape your vessel, then add a base and inner lining to complete. All materials and embellishments are included, with lots of interesting fibres and mixed media elements. Come and play and experiment with some unusual materials in this fun and relaxing extended workshop, to take your creativity into a whole new dimension! The workshop will be held in the peaceful venue of Sandham Memorial Hall, near Pulborough, with access to a kitchen and plenty of space for parking outside, with tea, coffee and biscuits on tap! Enjoy two days of uninterrupted creativity!
