Course Details
Learn the basics with a variety of techniques to create beautiful painted silk fabric. We will begin by looking at ways of achieving different effects, such as painting into wet and dry fabric, using salt to create texture and using gutta to easily draw lines and patterns. Then in the afternoon, you will have the chance to paint a more finished piece, which would be suitable to frame within an embroidery hoop if you wished. Silk paints are incredibly vibrant and colourful, giving stunning results. The type of paints I use, are easily set using an iron (no need to steam!), so would also be very accessible to play with at home if you decided you'd like to experiment further. The silk has a wonderful lustrous appearance, really enhancing the paints, and is such a pleasure to work with. Spend the day playing with colour and create some gorgeous samples to take away and add to your stash. They could be stitched into and made into something beautiful, or simply framed as they are. This really is a very fun, relaxing and satisfying skill to learn and you will be thrilled with the vibrancy of the results! Price includes all materials for the day, plus tea, coffee and biscuits.
