Experimental Hand Embroidery - Blanket Stitch and Beyond! Suitable for beginners, or those with some experience, come and join me for a relaxing day of experimental hand stitching. Over the day, we'll focus mainly on two basic stitches - straight stitch and blanket/buttonhole stitch and look at all the wonderful fun and variations you can have just by taking one stitch and trying out different techniques and variations. We'll begin with mastering the basics and looking at some of the "standard" stitches you can create, then next, we'll be asking the question "what happens if...?" For example, we'll try out different weights of thread and see what happens if we overlap them or distort the stitch, changing the scale, direction, length and width. We'll consider how different lengths of buttonhole/blanket stitch can be arranged to create patterns. We'll try out lacing and weaving through and around the stitch and adding beads. Spend the day playing and experimenting and add to your repertoire, to create a lovely hand embroidered sample piece, which you can use as inspiration for future projects.
